Permit: That is a bit complicated. You do not need a permit for Hunter’s Point South Park if you have less than 20 people in attendance as Hunter’s Point South Park is a city park. However, The Gantry Plaza State Park is, as the name suggests, a state park and in theory you need a permit to have your ceremony there. Now, having said that, never has anyone said anything when we conducted ceremonies there. They usually just ask big traditional weddings to show their permits. We are happy to talk more in details about this if you like.

Capacity: Hunter’s Point South Park is great for bigger groups. Because of the ‘permit issue’ we suggest smaller groups for ceremonies at Gantry Plaza State Park.
Privacy:
It depends on the exact location in the parks and the day of the week but because these parks are somewhat of an ‘insider tip’ there are barely any tourists around. If the weather is nice on a weekend though, people who live in the neighborhood will fill the park.
‘Bad Weather’ location:
NO, it’s all out in the open.

Tips: As mentioned above, Gantry Plaza State Park and Hunter’s Point South Park are still somewhat of a hidden gem. Tourists stick to Dumbo and the Brooklyn Bridge Park and mostly don’t know about these two Queens parks which makes it a great location for weddings. There are also fantastic restaurants and bars in the neighborhood as well as brand new hotels. Definitely worth a visit. Just don’t tell anyone else about it!! For the exact locations of below photos refer to the location map. They are marked in the order they appear in the post.
